Fluffy Or Focused? What Type Of Networking Are You Doing?

One of networking’s golden rules is that you need to invest time and effort to receive results. But that depends on your networking group. You see there are 2 types of networking groups – the fluffy ones and the business focused ones.

What’s a fluffy networking group?

A fluffy networking group is more focused on being social rather than generating business. Attendees look forward to catching up with their business mates over a few drinks or a meal. It’s for people who know they should be networking but aren’t prepared to put in the effort to meet new people and build mutually beneficial business relationships.

If you are a member of this type of networking group, you’ll probably have a good time but gain few business benefits.

What’s a focused networking group?

Business focused networking groups often have a social feel because members have built strong ties with each other. The difference is they also help members find new clients, share expertise and provide other business building assistance.

So ask yourself – what sort of networking are you doing? Both are fine if you are clear about why you are attending. But if you aren’t receiving the outcomes you expect from your networking activities, perhaps it’s time to find a more focused networking group.
